Yellow Brick Road of Tears

Girl in the blue dress,
Many times I have pictured us
in the motions of love scenes.
My queen of the jungle,
I could have been your lion king.
Why'd you have to be so mean?
Sideways glances, rolled eyes robbed my courage,
cutting off the hands of my advances.
Hadn't even asked your name before you severed all my chances.
Turned my heart into a twister, my roar, a tiny whisper.
Left me on the side of the road, thumb out, thinking,
"Damn, I guess I missed her."

Dearest Dorothy,
I endeavored to impress thee
with the enormity of my vocabulary.
Acquired a dictionary to lay open at your feet.
Composed sonnets in perfect iambic pentameter,
and haikus just for you, I thought size didn't matter?
Don't you see?
I'm the penslinging paragon of poetry.
Said you wanted a man with brains,
so why dost thine eyes pass over me?
Did you want more? My head is only temporarily empty.
I'll vow to get some from the store if only you'll let me.
Paint my sentences up in pretty punctuation
you'll finally get me, when you hear the sweetness of my enunciation.

My fallen star,
It was to you that I gave my beating heart.
Wrapped it in tin foil to preserve my love,
it's been yours from the start.
Where did you take it?
Without you I don't think I can make it.
I'm creaking in my bones,
this stiffness, I can't seem to shake it.
Can't take it.
Without your love, I'm an empty vessel.
A scrap of metal, haunted by echoes.
Emptiness, an empty chest, an empty nest.
Give me back what you have taken
so my memories can rest.

Bitch-
My name is Tommy, not Toto.
From the way you dogged me, I'm sure you'd never know though.
Pet names and pet games, I was your pet on a leash.
Strung me along chasing the cat
like some stray pussy fiend.
Your lap dog, fit only to feast on your table scraps.
You gave me pats on the head
that felt like bitch slaps.
I want to bite you until you bleed,
claw my name in your chest.
Tear off your blue dress,
expose the real wicked witch of the west.
You and your wicked wizard,
pulling strings behind curtains.
I hope a house falls on you
so you'll be the one who's hurting.

Dorothy we loved you.
Any one of us could have been your way home.
But you turned up your nose, left us abused and alone.
Pitching fits on the side of yellow bricked roads,
took from us all your picnic basket could hold.
Our minds, our hearts, the courage in our soul,
yes even our name;
after being stepped on by ruby red slippers,
we will never be the same.

We hate you,
(Sincerely),

The Heartbroken of Oz

What I Will Buy

These crowded streets have grown lonely,
full of featureless faces feeding meaningless lines
into the spaces between the present
and where you and I ended.

I'm back to the beginning,
albatross of memory
hung limp around my neck.
How could I say goodbye?
I wasn't ready yet
for secrets fed
intravenously
through phone lines;
spinal tap
broken back
rewind the time...

Closure is a myth
when your eyes
won't let me forget:

I love you.

Past the precipice of forever,
your fingers,
walking the lines of my palms...
how you said they'd never end.

Forget tomorrow-
I never asked for more than this.
Infinity in the hours,
moments out of minutes,
your kiss
and how it paused time
into centuries of seconds.

You sold me on secrets,
in hushed tones and love poems.
Told me we could complete this
line to the finish of wishes.
I fell for the hook
and now I'm sinking.

Save me with deceit.
Paint yourself up in disguise,
the truth, never a color you worked well in;
curbside salesman,
be my whore for the night.
I promise I'll buy into
all that you are selling.

Forget reason,
for I have rhymed
far too many times about truth and lies.
Bring me
back the illusion of thinking
we can fix this.

The only truth is...

I miss it.
